STOAG has integrated the electronic VRR tariff eezy into its new app. This means that traveling by bus and train across the network has become child's play.
For the first time, the tariff enables billing according to the kilometers actually driven. The travel costs are made up of a basic price and a price per kilometer and are calculated from the shortest distance between the starting point and the destination (as the crow flies). In the VRR area, the basic price is 1,50 euros, plus 0,25 euros per kilometer. However, passengers do not pay more per journey than the comparable single ticket would have cost in the respective price category. Billing is done automatically via the STOAG app.
The new electronic tariff is cheaper in many cases. For example, a trip from Oberhausen main station to Dinslaken with eezy costs 5 euros. A single ticket for this route costs 6,10 euros. Even when driving within the city, you can save some money. The trip from Falkestraße in Königshardt to the Sterkrade train station, for example, is 0,25 euros cheaper with eezy.
Driving without knowing the fare
When they start their journey, passengers tap the check-in button. At that moment, a digital travel authorization is created on the smartphone, which serves as a valid ticket and must be shown when boarding or at the checkpoint. When leaving the vehicle, the check-out button is pressed. In a later phase of eezy, this should be automated. "This makes mobility by bus and tram very easy, especially for customers who do not regularly use public transport," explains Mirco Balkmann, Head of Sales and Marketing at STOAG, "because knowledge of the individual tariffs and tariff limits is no longer available required to purchase a valid ticket.”
Relaunch of the STOAG app
The new tariff can only be used with a smartphone. The STOAG app has been completely revised for this purpose. Handling is easy. First, the free STOAG app must be loaded onto the smartphone or the existing app in the store must be updated. The eezy ticket appears under the menu item 'Tickets'. After a one-time registration, in which the e-mail address and bank details are requested, the new tariff can be used immediately. Co-travellers and bicycles can be booked. After booking, a digital ticket appears with a QR code, which must be presented during an inspection. To do this, the smartphone must be operational throughout the journey and the location service must be activated.
Eezy on the road all over NRW
For journeys beyond the network limits of the VRR, the eezy-nrw tariff is automatically used. With this tariff, passengers can travel throughout North Rhine-Westphalia, tariff limits no longer play a role here either. Mico Balkmann: "Even individual lines outside of North Rhine-Westphalia can be used with eezy.nrw. Oberhauseners like to go to Venlo. The train connection to Venlo Station can also be billed via eezy and is also slightly cheaper.” For all NRW-wide trips, including the trip to Venlo mentioned, the correct price is automatically billed after checking in and out via the STOAG app .
If you want to know how much the trip with the eezy tariff costs before you set off, you can find one on the STOAG website under Tickets Price calculator.
