New buses for Oberhausen

The STOAG bus fleet, consisting of 72 solo buses and 49 articulated buses, is replaced by new vehicles year after year in order to guarantee a high technical level and to meet the requirements of climate and environmental protection. Seven new Mercedes Benz O 530 Citaro solo buses will join the route network in the next few days. The vehicles were ordered in autumn last year - an investment of 1,64 million euros. The Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr funded bus procurement with 435.000 euros.

Quality and safety for passengers and drivers

The new buses offer high quality for the passengers. In the middle of the vehicles there is more space for strollers, walkers and wheelchairs thanks to an additional floor space. Due to the demographic change, the number of passengers with mobility aids is increasing, so that the additional parking space ensures better coexistence in the area of the second door. The new vehicles have a total of 25 seats, 5 folding seats and 73 standing places. The third door in the rear of the vehicle makes it easier to get out of the vehicle - especially at rush hour, many customers tend to stay in the front door area because they are concerned that they will not be able to get out in a full bus on time. As with all STOAG buses, the vehicles have a fold-out ramp, double TFT monitors and air conditioning systems that provide warm air in winter and cool down in summer.

For the first time, the new buses are equipped with partial protective windows for the drivers, which protect the employees from being attacked from behind while driving. It goes without saying that the new buses have video cameras that have proven themselves in the vehicles.

Green badge and blue angel

Awarded the Blue Angel, the seven new buses meet the highest quality standards - both in production and in daily use. Special attention was paid to the environmental compatibility of the built-in materials: no substances that damage the ozone layer were used, and the lacquers used were reduced in the presence of toxic heavy metal compounds (solvents <130g per m²).

The EEV emissions standard (Enhanced Environmentally Friendly Vehicle) is currently the most demanding series-production European emissions standard for buses; almost half of the STOAG fleet has this standard.

The new buses are characterized by their very low fuel consumption, which is around 37,5 liters / 100 km.

With an average age of currently 5,4 years, STOAG has one of the most modern vehicle fleets in the VRR: 101 buses have a standard that corresponds to that of a green sticker, 20 buses currently have a yellow sticker. Thanks to STOAG's continuous investment in new vehicles, by mid-2014 at the latest, all buses will be marked with a green sticker and will then meet the stricter conditions for driving in the environmental zones.
