Oberhausen's first hotspot on wheels

Since November 2nd, STOAG passengers have been able to surf the Internet free of charge in two buses. Until the end of the year there is free internet access in a solo bus (KOM 659) and an articulated bus (KOM 670) operated by STOAG.

A mobile LTE access point in the bus ensures that passengers can surf the web via a broadband and fast data connection. The router can access all German networks via the roof antenna, and all internet services are available while driving. The two buses can be recognized by their eye-catching stickers and are used alternately on particularly heavily used lines in the Oberhausen city area: SB90, SB98, 954, 956, 960 and 976.

How are you?

Quite simply: The passenger looks for available networks on his smartphone or other mobile device. If he STOAG Free Wifi finds, he has to register once with the provider NECO GmbH and can log in directly. No personal access data is required for registration. Before using it, you only have to agree to the data and conditions of use, after which nothing stands in the way of mobile surfing pleasure. The STOAG WLAN can be used for up to two hours.

What's next?

For STOAG managing director Werner Overkamp, WLAN is part of the service for passengers: “Free WLAN networks are the future and can make local transport even more attractive. We are curious to see how well the new service will be received by our customers. Whether WLAN is implemented in the bus in the long term depends on the feedback from our passengers. ”If the test is successful, Overkamp continues, it could well be that other vehicles will be equipped with public WLAN.
