Tram renovation completed

STOAG Stadtwerke Oberhausen GmbH has invested around 1,8 million euros to fundamentally repair its six NF6D low-floor trams from Siemens DÜWAG.

The low-floor trams have been in use in Oberhausen since 1996. So that the railways can be used reliably for another eight to ten years, they were renovated in the special workshop for rail vehicles, the company FWM-Fahrzeugwerke Miraustrasse GmbH near Berlin.

The main task of the FWM company consisted in the renovation of the car body substructures, which showed corrosion damage after 20 years of use.

After the corrosion treatment, new wooden floor panels were applied to the supporting structure, measures were taken to meet the current fire protection standards, and most of the chassis were reconditioned and subjected to the general inspection.

The low-floor trams are used on line 112 in Oberhausen and Mülheim. The line is operated jointly by the transport companies in Oberhausen and Mülheim. "Now we hope to increase the reliability of the trams in daily use", says STOAG managing director Werner Overkamp.
